Low Utility of Aerospace as Mode of Transport in India

The utility of aviation as a mode of transportation in India is improving steadily, with a Cumulative Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 14% in the last decade. Domestic Passenger Traffic was 123 Million in 2013-14 which registered a growth of 5.2% over the previous year. 

The Government takes all possible steps to increase the coverage and affordability of air transport in the country. The major steps taken are as under:- 

i) The Government has laid down Route Dispersal Guidelines (RDG) with a view to achieve better air transport services of different regions of the country. 

ii) Foreign Direct Investment in aviation sector 

iii) Government of India has been persistently requesting State Governments to reduce VAT on ATF so that cost of operations of an airlines could be reduced in making air travel more affordable.
